Buy Jeep - Disassemble Jeep

In preparation for receiving our trailer, we installed a brake controller in the Jeep. A friend told me that “J.E.E.P.” means Just Empty Every Pocket. You do have to install a lot of things. But that is the thing that makes them so nice to own. You can install what you need but you don’t have to purchase stuff you won’t ever use.

It’s pretty amazing actually. Installing something requires prying some plastic out of what was a major purchase. Be brave and keep prying. It will come loose, eventually. Usually the plastic doesn’t break and will go back together. It would be nice if I knew which direction I was supposed to be prying.

The hard part of the break controller install, for us, was getting the USB charger (cigarette lighter) out. We watched several videos on how to remove it from the dash panel. But the videos you could see the best already had the unit removed from the panel. We finally figured out that you have to hold part of it from the back while pushing the center part of what you’re holding toward the front. Then, use the ’special tool’ to hold part of it in place from the front. If that sounds confusing. Yes! That was our problem. I’m still not completely clear on how it came apart. It kind of exploded in our hands and was apart. After that we didn’t question our good fortune. That step was done; don’t question it. Move on. After that you just drill some holes in a convenient location to mount the thing, connect the wires, tie up the extra wire and reassemble all the plastic that is your Jeep. Simple.
