In a Cow Pasture

Camp Near The Castles near Buena Vista

August 13, 2022 - On our fifth night out, we camped in a pretty cow pasture next to a castle rock. And since cleanliness in a cow pasture is as good as any other clean but with nice grass, we took a shower!

We had tried this once before but we had not thought it through and were unprepared. This time we were ready. We had brought a small wire basket to hold things you might need for showering, soap, shampoo, razor, and a camp towel.

The basket has a couple of hooks that allows us to hang it from the propane cover next to the Wabasco (water) heater. And since there is a propane tank on both sides of the heater, the basket works on which ever side of the trailer is away from the road. You know in even the most remote pastures someone is going to drive by while you’re showering so we opted for bathing suits.

We had considered finding a way to hang the shower nozzle but didn’t come up with a good way. Maybe on our next trip we’ll figure something out. For now, setting it on the tung of the trailer would have to be good enough.

The final piece of our shower kit is a mat. We have an old non-skid rug pad we don’t use at home. We cut this up for several uses around the trailer. This material is ideal as it’s plastic so it doesn’t take long to dry. It has holes so water can drain through it while your showering and you don’t end up with grass stuck to your feet. Also it was just taking up space at home. Since our shower mat was originally intended to keep rugs from sliding around, we use it under our rug inside the trailer as well as our shower mat.

Soap, hot water, and a very small towel later, the only other things you need for a successful shower is a bit of rope and some clothes pins to hang your bathing suit and towel.

Next on our agenda, dinner, grilled swordfish with asparagus then maybe some astro photography.
