Sand, then More Sand

What caught my eye: It is a very simple photo with a lot going on: sparkly sand; ripples (left foreground); sandfall (center); an interesting shape; shadows, and two colors of sand.

Location: Death Valley, California. Which is now open for kayaking!

Date: April 5, 2023

It’s not a shadow or an optical illusion. The sand is different colors. As in the photo above, the wind action sifts the sand particles by size, with the coarsest material at the top. In this photo, the wind was moving from left to right so that the ripples are perpendicular to the wind. If you want to know more, check out Aeolian Processes.
