Snowshoeing under a Snow Moon

February 5, 2023 - If the lighting in this photo looks off, it is because it was taken by moonlight on an iphone. A local park was holding a moonlight walk to the top of the peak on the right. It was lots of fun. Afterwards they had hot chocolate and smores by the bonfire. Since it is hard and dangerous to walk around a bonfire wearing snowshoes, everyone took them off and stuck them in the snow. We thought it made for an interesting photo.

A snow moon is the second full moon of the year, since more snow falls in February than any other month. The name, snow moon, originated with the Naudowessie. Europeans shortened their name to Sioux.
